Monserrate C. Roman, MA NASA

Ms Monsi Roman joined NASA in 1989, as the Chief Microbiologist of the Environmental Control and Life Support Systems (ECLSS) organization, responsible for the design of the first NASA water/air regenerative systems...the only scientist in the team of engineers working in a project that resulted in the successful development of the hardware currently keeping the crew healthy and alive in the International Space Station (ISS). In 2000 she became the Project Manager for the ECLSS team, in addition, she maintained the Agency lead role for the development of in-flight microbial monitors. In 2015 Ms. Roman became the Program Executive of the NASA’s Centennial Challenges Program, the agency’s multimillion dollar technology development program. In that position, she led the agency initiative to redesign/reimagine the program that started in 2005. In 2022 she transitioned to a leading role in the Commercial Low Earth Orbit (LEO) Development (CLD) Program Office, supporting the vision of a Commercial LEO Economy in which NASA is one of the users, helping to maintain a permanent presence in LEO after the International Space Station is no longer available. In that role, she works the strategy of maintaining open dialog between NASA stakeholders, other government Agencies (OGAs) and industry.
