Chakameh Azimpour, PhD Amgen

Chakameh Azimpour is a trained virologist / microbiologist with more than 17 years of experience in Viral safety and microbial control. She joined Amgen in Dec 2019 to lead the team of scientists at Biosafety Development Team in charge of viral safety, mycoplasma testing and Viral Clearance Assessment studies. She is responsible for strategizing Amgen’s viral safety and contamination control, driving innovation and technology development efforts related to next-gen virus production and purification as well as cutting-edge method and assay development for detection of adventitious agents ensuring consistent and efficient delivery of Amgen’s products. She also supports subjects associated with manufacturing of drug substance and drug products where microbiology and virology expertise or guidance is needed. In addition to her role in the industry, she has been a lecturer and mentor to undergrad and graduate students in the field of microbiology and biotechnology and volunteers in local middle schools supporting STEM initiatives.
