Cynthia Schnedar, JD FDA

Cynthia Schnedar, J.D. has more than 25 years of experience as an attorney, and more than 20 years of leadership experience in the government. She leads the Office of Compliance in its efforts to protect the American public from unsafe and ineffective drug products.

Prior to joining FDA, Cynthia served as the Deputy Inspector General at the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) since 2010, where she oversaw a staff of more than 400 special agents, attorneys, auditors, inspectors, and administrative staff. During part of that time, she also served as Acting Inspector General. From 2005 to 2010, she was the Counselor to the Inspector General at DOJ, where she directed external affairs and served as the primary congressional liaison and media spokesperson for the Inspector General.

She spent nearly 11 years as an Assistant United States Attorney at the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, where she became the Deputy Chief of the Sex Offense and Domestic Violence Section. From 1989 to 1994, she was a trial attorney in the Civil Fraud Section at DOJ.

Cynthia earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of New Mexico with distinction in journalism and political science, and her juris doctor degree with honors from the University of Texas School of Law.
