Mathias Schemmerer University of Regensburg

Mathias Schemmerer studied Biotechnology at the Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences. After gaining experience in immunology during an internship followed by the diploma thesis at Lophius Biosciences GmbH, he started as a research associate in the virology department of the Institute of Clinical Microbiology and Hygiene in Regensburg in 2013.

In 2014, he additionally became a staff member of the National Consultant Laboratory for HAV and HEV and started his Ph.D. thesis in 2017. His research focusses on the isolation of HEV in cell culture as well as investigating the development of the HEV seroprevalence in the German population over time.
