Raanan A. Bloom, Ph.D. is a toxicologist and Senior Environmental Officer at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER). In this capacity, Dr. Bloom works at the intersection of the environment, public health, science and policy. At CDER, Dr. Bloom is the principal scientific and regulatory advisor for matters related to the Environmental Analysis component of Investigational New Drug Applications (INDs), New Drug Applications (NDAs) Abbreviated New Drug Applications (ANDAs), Biologic License Applications (BLAs) and supplements. Dr. Bloom is responsible for overseeing National Environmental Policy Act activities including the Environmental Impact regulations as stipulated at 21 CFR 25. Dr. Bloom is the liaison to EPA's Office of Water with regards to the impact of pharmaceutical residues in surface and drinking water on ecological and human health. Dr. Bloom received a Ph.D. in environmental microbiology at Rutgers University and conducted post-doctoral research at the Institute for Comparative and Environmental Toxicology at Cornell University, joining FDA's Center for Veterinary Medicine in 1990. In the mid 90’s, he was hired to work at EPA's Office of Pesticide Programs and the Toxics Release Inventory Program, rejoining FDA CDER as Senior Environmental Officer in 2006.
