Shanker Gupta PhD PDA Journal of Pharmaceutical Science and Technology

Shanker works as a senior scientist at NCI/NIH in the Division of Cancer Prevention. At NIH, Shanker has been responsible for managing multiple translational projects designed to produce clinical products for use in Phase I and Phase 2 clinical trials. He collaborates with contract teams, setting priorities in consultation with division leadership. He actively participates in the design and development of formulations of several promising agents including proteins/peptides, monoclonal antibodies, and small molecules (including hydrophobic agents) resulting in patent filings. Shanker has supported over 40 IND submissions. Shanker has managed projects across different disciplines, including drug discovery, pre-clinical research, in-vitro/in-vivo efficacy, safety, toxicology, pre-formulation, formulation, clinical product manufacture of biologics and small molecules. . His research led to development of Velcade™, a multiple myeloma drug. Prior to joining NIH, Shanker worked for Abbott Laboratories where he led the formulation and production of lung surfactant proteins and filed IND for expanded use of lung surfactant product (Survanta®), which was the first product of its kind for neonatal respiratory distress syndrome. Shanker received his BS (Hons.) in Pharmacy from the University of Florida and Ph. D. in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
