Daniel Blackwood Pfizer, Inc.
Daniel O. Blackwood is currently an Associate Research Fellow in the Drug Product Design group for PharmaTherapeutics Pharmaceutical Sciences at Pfizer. He received his BS in Mechanical Engineering from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY and his MS in Industrial Engineering from Columbia University in New York City. During his more than 20 years at Pfizer, Daniel's research has focused on the co-development and technology transfer of late stage drug product programs and the development of robust process scale-up models supporting these activities. Currently, he is the technical program lead for Pfizer's Portable, Continuous, Miniature, and Modular (PCM&M) development and manufacturing initiative for Oral Solid Dosages (OSD). The PCM&M initiative has created a powder-to-tablet continuous processing train utilizing either a twin-screw wet granulation/fluid bed drying or direct compression technologies. Together, these continuous process systems are located inside a portable, autonomous cGMP module or POD. In this role, Daniel is leading the cross-functional team of engineers and scientists in the design, fabrication, and installation/commissioning activities for PCM&M. In addition, he is a subject matter expert in drug product continuous processing technologies including gravimetric feeders, in-line powder mixers, and tablet compression equipment.
