Eric Delwart, PhD Blood Systems Research Institute
Dr Delwart has been an investigator at Blood Systems Research Institute (BSRI) since 1999. BSRI is the research division of Blood Systems, the second blood collecting and testing non-profit company in the US after the American Red Cross. Dr Delwart has been analyzing blood borne viral pathogen evolution and established one of the first viral discovery and bioinformatics pipeline using next generation DNA sequencing. His main interests are the genetic characterization and epidemiology of "novel" viral pathogens in humans and animals. In 2010 his group was the first to use deep sequencing to detect viral contamination in a licensed biological products (live attenuated viral vaccine Rotarix).
