PDA is thrilled to announce the PDA Sustainability in Pharma Workshop 2024, scheduled on 26 September 2024 in Gothenburg, Sweden.
This workshop is designed to educate and assist in adapting sustainable goals in the industry at large.
In the first session focused on manufacturing processes in pharma operations, we will present eco-design applications. Continuing, we will discuss how AI can enhance sustainability in biopharmaceutical manufacturing—followed by presenting strategies for reducing water usage in manufacturing support operations.
We will delve into the pharma value chain, including a two-hour workshop activity.

Kiley Djupstrom is a founding Sustainability and End-of-Life co-program manager with KiiP (Kilmer Innovations in Packaging) – a healthcare packaging industry collaborative seeking to improve patient outcomes and clinician delight through the science and engineering of sustainable packaging. For over 15 years, Kiley has dedicated her career to developing and commercializing novel technologies for the betterment of patients and the planet. Her professional experience has spanned the value chain as well as technical and commercial disciplines from upstream R&D to downstream commercial leadership.
Kiley started her career in research and development in the life science and biotechnology sectors. While at Virent, she contributed to developing catalytic chemistry technology to convert plant-based materials into chemicals and fuels identical to those made from petroleum. Kiley then gained downstream converting experience in progressive commercial roles with Plastic Ingenuity, a developer of thermoformed packaging solutions for the world’s leading brands.
Most recently, Kiley led commercial development with responsibility for crafting and executing growth strategies, identifying and developing market opportunities, and delivering a differentiated customer experience. Kiley studied biochemistry at the University of Wisconsin, holds a Master’s Certificate in Project Management, and values continuous professional development.

Josh Eaton joined PDA in 2011 as a project manager and is now Senior Director, Scientific and Regulatory Affairs at PDA. He and his team work with PDA members to produce Technical Reports, Points to Consider documents, and feedback on regulatory draft guidance. The S&RA staff also facilitate the activities of the PDA Technical Advisory Boards and PDA Interest Groups. Prior to joining PDA, Josh developed and marketed drug discovery and research reagents and co-founded a small spin-off company based on those technologies. He earned his Master’s degree in Biochemistry and Biotechnology in 2005 from Georgetown University. -

Falk Klar holds a Ph.D. in Applied Physics and has over 19 years of experience in Quality Assurance and Compliance in the life science industry. Falk held positions in pre-clinical research and development in a medical product company and clinical research in a CRO. He has gained experience with biopharmaceutical and pharmaceutical products including monoclonal antibodies, vaccines, parenteral, narcotics, and animal drugs in several positions in quality management. Falk joined PDA Europe in 2015 as Senior Director of Training & Education. Since 2016 he has been appointed General Manager and Vice President of PDA Europe. -

Morten Munk’s career is comprised of more than 35 years of experience within the global biopharmaceutical industry. One common denominator for his approach is to have a holistic and broad perspective on all aspects and steps in the production of biopharmaceuticals. He believes; collaboration, knowledge sharing, and optimal use of all relevant technologies are the key factors in ensuring the availability of the best product for the patient. Morten joined Fujifilmin in 2020 where holds a role as Director, Global Alliance Management. In 2001 he was one of the co-founders of CMC Biologics (now AGC Biologics) after he had been working 14 years at Novo Nordisk. Furthermore, Morten has authored or contributed to several technical articles and guidelines. He is frequently invited to give scientific and technical presentations at international conferences. Additionally, he is active in the biopharmaceutical community as a member of scientific committees for various international conferences as well as a volunteer in international industry organizations, where the most important naturally is PDA, but also ISPE and BPOG. -

Sebastian Teitz graduated from the University of Cologne with a diploma in Genomic Imprinting. He followed this with a PhD in the Analysis of O-glycosylated Proteins. Sebastian has previously worked at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (Seattle, WA), looking into Cytomegalovirus and its Role in Graft vs. Host Disease and Transplant Rejection; and at NewLab BioQuality / Charles River as the Project Manager of Virus Clearance Studies. Within Asahi, his focus is on virus- & pathogen safety, supporting customers & internal entities technically and scientifically, and being a liaison for authorities, CROs, and industry consortiums of the biopharmaceuticals industry. At Biopharma-Excellence he consulted developers of new drugs in scientific- & regulatory affairs during all stages to market access and is currently freelancing serving the biopharma community. -

Gerald Tyers has 35+ years of experience within the pharma, devices, and vaccines industries. In his current role, he is interfacing with trade bodies and regulators on a variety of topics including sustainability.
Previous roles include directorial development roles in companies such as Warner Lambert Healthcare and Baxter Healthcare.
He brings a broad range of experience from R&D through to production, a passion for sustainable innovation, and for creating a regulatory environment capable of supporting and accelerating implementation. Gerald holds a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences, a Master's degree in Neurophysiology, and a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry.
