CAPT Sharon Thoma, PharmD Food and Drug Administration

In November 1989, Dr. Thoma pursued her career with the U.S. Public Health Service and transferred to the Food & Drug Administration (FDA). For many years she held a field position as Pre-Approval Inspection Manager and Senior Drug Investigator in the Minneapolis, MN District Office. In March 2007, she accepted a position with FDA's Office of Regulatory Affairs in the Division of Field Investigations, Rockville, MD as a National Expert of Pharmaceutical Inspections.

Internationally, she has inspected firms in India, China, France, Germany, Sweden, Belgium, The Netherlands, Ireland, South Africa, Switzerland, and Canada. Inspections include sterile, solid oral dosage form, topical, and active pharmaceutical ingredient manufacturers, contract testing laboratories, Biotech, Positron Emission Testing, Pharmacy Compounding, Clinical Investigators, etc. for human and/or animal drug facilities.

Dr. Thoma has participated in various temporary duty assignments in FDA headquarters and field offices. She has served in roles as Acting Special Assistant to the District Director, Acting Director of Compliance Branch, Acting Compliance Officer, and Acting Supervisory Investigator over her 24 plus years with FDA. She keeps current in the pharmacy profession and is certified to administer Immunizations. Education: Biological Technology Education Center (BTEC) Courses in Bioprocessing, QC/Analytical, Engineering, and Aseptic Processing, North Carolina State University, 05/2008 – 02/2009; APhA Certification for Pharmacy-Based Immunization Delivery, June 2008; FDA Pharmaceutical Inspectorate (PI) & PI auditor (November 2004 to present)
