Erwin Vanhaecke, PhD Novartis
Prior to this appointment in January 2013, Mr. Vanhaecke was Sr. VP Alcon Global Quality Operations. Erwin joined Alcon in January, 1990 as Quality Assurance Manager of the Belgium manufacturing facility and served as the Quality Assurance/Regulatory Affairs Manager Northern Europe until 2002. Following this role, Erwin took the position of Group Director, Quality Assurance with responsibility for quality assurance function in each of the Pharmaceutical manufacturing plants. In 2003, he took on additional responsibilities in Corporate Quality Assurance and was named Vice President, Corporate QA - Pharmaceutical and later Surgical Products. In 2009 he became VP Global Quality Assurance and Compliance leading Alcon Lab's Quality and GXP Compliance functions.
Prior to joining Alcon, Erwin worked as a Researcher and Lector in Pharmaceutical Microbiology at State University of Ghent (Belgium).
Erwin earned a Degree in Pharmacy and a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the State University of Ghent and a Post-graduate Degree in Management from the VELKHO School in Brussels (Belgium).
He is married and has a young adult son and daughter. His favorite outside work activities are cycling, scuba diving and travelling with the family.
